How to maintain molds?

1.Cleaning after production
After each production run, thoroughly clean residual plastic, oil stains, and impurities from the mold cavities, cores, and parting surfaces. Use special cleaning agents or soft cloths for wiping to prevent  from damaging the surface.
2.Rust prevention
After cleaning, spray anti-rust oil on the mold surface (especially metal contact areas such as cavities, guide pillars, and guide bushes). For molds out of use for a long time, more comprehensive rust prevention is needed, such as covering them with anti-rust paper or films.
3. Lubrication maintenance
Regularly apply special lubricants (such as high-temperature grease) to moving parts like guide pillars, guide bushes, sliders, and ejector pins to ensure smooth movement and reduce wear.
4. Regular inspection
Check if all mold components (such as screws and locating pins) are loose and tighten them promptly.
Inspect cavities and cores for scratches, cracks, or wear, and repair minor damages in time.
Check if the cooling system (water pipes, joints) is blocked or leaking to ensure proper heat dissipation.
5. Proper storage
Unused molds should be stored in categories, avoiding stacking and extrusion. Keep the storage environment dry and ventilated, and away from corrosive substances.
6. Professional maintenance
Conduct a comprehensive overhaul after a certain number of production cycles (e.g., 10,000 cycles), including replacing  (such as springs and sealing rings) and repolishing cavities, which should be operated by professionals.

Why Do We Need It?
Simply put, it uses a computer to simulate the entire process of plastic injection molding in advance—it shows how molten plastic fills the mold and cools to harden. It's like a "digital rehearsal" for production. Without actually opening the mold or conducting trial production, you can see the flow of plastic and potential problems with the final product.
The core purpose is to avoid detours, save money, and improve product quality:
1. Cost savings: It prevents the need to modify the mold (which is extremely expensive) after it's been made due to discovered issues, and reduces the raw materials and time wasted on trial production.
2. Quality improvement: It identifies potential product defects (such as air bubbles, deformation, and dents) in advance, allowing these issues to be resolved before production begins.
3. Faster production: It optimizes cooling time (the longest part of the injection molding process), thereby increasing production efficiency.
 For example, when manufacturing a phone case, mold flow analysis can determine in advance "where the plastic enters the mold" and "how to cool it faster," preventing the finished case from being deformed or having visible marks.
