How to maintain mold?

1. Pre-use Inspection (5-10 Minutes)

Appearance:  Check for cracks, deformation, or rust on the mold surface. Focus on the parting surface (the contact surface during mold clamping) for foreign objects (e.g., plastic residues, metal shavings). If any are found, wipe them clean with a soft cloth dipped in alcohol to avoid mold damage during clamping.

Components:  Inspect guide pillars and bushings (mold positioning parts) for sufficient lubrication. If dryness or abnormal noise occurs, apply specialized mold grease (avoid ordinary engine oil, which may corrode the mold). Ensure ejector pins (parts for pushing out products) are flexible and free from jamming.
Parameters: Verify that mold temperature and pressure settings match the material of the products to be produced (e.g., plastic, metal). Prevent mold overload caused by improper parameters (e.g.,excessively high temperature for high-temperature plastics may cause adhesion to the mold cavity).

2. Post-use Cleaning and Protection (Within 30 Minutes After Production)
Thorough Cleaning: Spray the mold cavity (space for product forming) and core with specialized mold cleaner to remove residual material residues. Dry with compressed air (to avoid rust from residual moisture). For molds with cooling channels, open the drain valve to empty accumulated water and prevent freezing cracks or channel blockages in winter.
Rust Prevention: After cleaning, apply a thin, even layer of anti-rust oil to metal contact surfaces such as the parting surface, guide pillars, and ejector pins (select a type compatible with subsequent production materials; e.g., avoid anti-rust oil that may contaminate plastic for plastic molds).

Finally, cover the mold with a dust cover to prevent dust accumulation.

Why Do We Need It?

Simply put, it uses a computer to simulate the entire process of plastic injection molding in advance—it shows how molten plastic fills the mold and cools to harden. It's like a "digital rehearsal" for production. Without actually opening the mold or conducting trial production, you can see the flow of plastic and potential problems with the final product.

The core purpose is to avoid detours, save money, and improve product quality:

1. Cost savings: It prevents the need to modify the mold (which is extremely expensive) after it’s been made due to discovered issues, and reduces the raw materials and time wasted on trial production.

2. Quality improvement: It identifies potential product defects (such as air bubbles, deformation, and dents) in advance, allowing these issues to be resolved before production begins.

3. Faster production: It optimizes cooling time (the longest part of the injection molding process), thereby increasing production efficiency.

 For example, when manufacturing a phone case, mold flow analysis can determine in advance "where the plastic enters the mold" and "how to cool it faster," preventing the finished case from being deformed or having visible marks.
